Licensing assistance is included with every licensed production. The extensive website resources and Department Resource System are designed to answer many common production questions and reduce the need for ongoing support.

Why do I see the Department of Human Relations throughout the website?
The Department of Human Relations is the fictional heavenly organization at the heart of Probationary Angel.

Rather than existing only as a setting within the play, the Department has become the creative framework through which many of the production resources, communications, and supplemental materials are presented.

From official "case files" and production archives to optional Department Interludes and theatrical keepsakes, the Department helps extend the experience beyond the script while remaining true to the story's humor and charm.

Think of it as stepping into the world of Probationary Angel before the curtain even rises.
 
Why is everything from the Department of Human Relations?
Because that's where the story begins.

In Probationary Angel, the Department of Human Relations serves as the heavenly agency responsible for helping people reconnect, grow, and discover second chances. Every assignment begins there.

As the production resources expanded beyond the original script, it felt natural that they would come from the same fictional department. Production guides became Department files.

Director communications became internal memoranda. Optional scenes became Department Interludes. Even the keepsakes included with licensed productions are presented as official Department materials.
 

Do we have to use the Department of Human Relations materials?

Absolutely not.
 

The Department of Human Relations™ materials—including projections, animations, announcements, interludes, mini-skits, visual archives, and other heavenly resources—are entirely optional.

They are not part of the required script and are never required to produce Probationary Angel.
 

Some theatres may choose to incorporate many of these resources to further develop the heavenly setting, extend scene transitions, add moments of humor, or create a more immersive audience experience.

Others may choose to use only a few... or none at all.
 

Every approach is equally valid.
 

Think of the Department Resource System™ as a creative toolbox. The script tells the complete story on its own. The optional Department materials simply provide additional opportunities for directors who enjoy expanding the world of the Department of Human Relations™.
 

Whether those resources become part of your production or remain in their folders waiting for another day, the choice is entirely yours.

Will future plays also be connected to the Department of Human Relations?
Some may.

The Department was created as a fictional world rather than simply a setting for a single story. While Probationary Angel is the first production to introduce audiences to the Department, future plays, characters, and theatrical resources may explore other corners of this universe.

Each production will always stand on its own, but returning visitors may discover familiar places, departments, or characters along the way.
 
Why does this website feature one play?
Because Probationary Angel isn't simply a script—it's an entire production system.
Rather than building a large catalog as quickly as possible, my goal has been to develop one production as completely as possible.

Every production guide, projection, Department Interlude, marketing resource, cue sheet, communication, and planning tool has been created with a single purpose: to help theatres spend less time solving problems and more time creating memorable productions.

I believe a theatre's experience extends well beyond the script itself.
If I can save a director hours of preparation, provide a designer with ready-to-use resources, or help a volunteer theatre avoid reinventing the wheel, then I've accomplished something meaningful.

As future plays reach this same level of development, they will receive the same care, attention, and dedicated home.
Until then, my focus remains on continually improving the world of Probationary Angel.

Why focus on one production?
There are many stories I'd love to share.
In fact, several are already written.
But I made a conscious decision not to rush them into publication.

Rather than dividing my attention across a growing catalog, I've chosen to invest it deeply into one production at a time— expanding and refining the resources that accompany it.

When another play is ready, it won't simply be added to a list.
It will receive the same level of care and attention as Probationary Angel.

If I purchase the Department Resource System later, do I have to buy another performance license?

No.

The Department Resource System™ is an optional production resource and may be added to any active licensed production at any time.
