A Heartfelt Stage Comedy by Lori Beach
PROBATIONARY ANGEL
About the Play
Probationary Angel is an original two‑act stage comedy by playwright Lori Beach. After his unexpected death, Mark Langston is sent to the Department of Human Relations as a probationary angel, where he must complete three earthly assignments to earn his wings. Blending humor, heart, and celestial bureaucracy, the play explores second chances, human connection, and the courage to change.

The Story
Mark Langston always meant to get around to living more fully. He had plans, good intentions, and one very important question he was waiting for the perfect moment to ask. Then, in the middle of an otherwise ordinary evening—and a bite of pizza—his time unexpectedly runs out.
Instead of finding the answers he expects, Mark arrives at the Department of Human Relations, where he learns that a lifetime of hesitation has earned him an unusual second chance: probationary angel status. To earn his wings, he must help three people move beyond the very things that once held him back—fear, self-doubt, missed opportunities, and the inability to follow through.
There is only one problem: Mark is invisible to the people he has been assigned to help. They can hear him, but only as something resembling their own inner voice. Armed with good intentions, questionable timing, and a Supervisor Angel who strongly prefers rules, order, and considerably less chaos, Mark begins discovering that helping people is far more complicated than simply telling them what to do.
As each assignment unfolds, seemingly separate lives begin to connect in ways Mark never could have anticipated. What begins as a celestial probation becomes something far more personal—a funny, heartfelt journey through unfinished business, unexpected friendship, grief, healing, and the ordinary moments that make a life matter.

SECOND CHANCES
It is never too late for a life—or a story—
to change direction.
HUMAN CONNECTION
Seemingly separate lives
can become part of
something larger.
FINDING THE COURAGE
Sometimes moving forward begins before we
feel completely ready.
GRIEF & HEALING
Moving forward does not require leaving the people
we love behind.
THE HUMOR IN BEING HUMAN
Even the most meaningful moments can arrive wrapped in awkwardness, chaos, and a little celestial paperwork.
Comedy with Heart
Probationary Angel balances genuine laughter with moments of reflection, allowing humor and heart to exist side by side. The comedy grows from recognizable human behavior, imperfect decisions, clashing personalities, and one probationary angel discovering that good intentions do not always produce orderly results.
Beneath the celestial paperwork and questionable guidance is a story about the things that connect us: second chances, unfinished business, grief, friendship, courage, and the difference one person can make simply by showing up.

☁️ THE DEPARTMENT
OF HUMAN RELATIONS
A celestial workplace
where souls are processed, assignments are issued,
rules are plentiful,
and paperwork may,
in fact, be eternal.
Two worlds. Three assignments. One probationary angel trying very hard not to make things worse.
The World of Probationary Angel
Probationary Angel moves between two very different worlds: the familiar, imperfect lives unfolding on Earth and the wonderfully bureaucratic Department of Human Relations watching from above.
On Earth, Mark encounters ordinary people at turning points in their lives. In the Department, every assignment comes with rules, paperwork, supervision—and the occasional reminder that even the afterlife may be understaffed.
The two worlds gradually begin to overlap as separate stories connect, allowing the production to move from comedy to tenderness and back again without losing its sense of play.
